Topflappen/Untersetzer selbst ge-in-the-hooped.
Als Nics neue Stickdatei in mein Mailfach flatterte, wusste ich sofort, das werden Topflappen. Da ich es mir gerne einfach mache, dachte ich wieso nicht gleich das Volumenvlies und den rückwärtigen Stoff mit einspannen, so dass diese während des Stickens mitgesteppt werden?
When Nic’s new embroidery designs arrived in my mailbox, I knew I wanted to make pot holders out of them. And because I like to keep things extremely simple, (ok, you guessed, I’m lazy) I decided to fix the volume fleece and the back fabric into the embroidery hoop so these would be quilted in the process.
Dann schnitt ich mit einem Abstand von ca. 3cm um die Konturen und fasste den Rand mit grün-weiss-kariertem Schrägband ein. Dabei habe ich gleichzeitig ein Band als Aufhänger mit eingefasst.
Then I cut the shape out, leaving a gap of about 3cm and bound the edges using green-white-checked cotton-binding. I also fixed in a ribbon while I was at it, so I could hang the potholders.
Beim Sticken habe ich statt Weiß als Untergarn, den Bobbin in einer ähnlichen Farbe wie der rückseitige Stoff aufgewickelt, so sehen die Läppis auch von hinten schön aus.
Mein Tipp beim Sticken: den Applistoff etwas großzügiger ausschneiden, damit er trotz des Volumens von der Konturlinie mit eingefasst wird.

Instead of using a white thread in the bobbin of my embroidery machine, I chose a similar colour to the back fabric so that it would like from the back too.
My advice if you want to try this out: cut the applique fabric out a bit more generously than usual so it won’t be pulled out of the outline stitch due to the extra volume in the middle.
